Down in the East Village sits a theater, New York Theatre Workshop. that manages to find innovative ways to tell stories that resonate through time.
Their Fall Season is coming up and here are some of the options:
In Honor of Jean-Michel Basquiat is created and performed by the fierce Roger Guenveur Smith from Sept. 9 – Oct. 4. Smith becomes immersed in the story of Basquiat the person, the brilliant artist and friend. This one-man show is delivered with great verve and poignancy and should not be missed. Wild Rose sets up residence from Nov. 24 – Jan. 10. Written by Nicole Taylor, directed by John Tiffany (an award winning theater artist who helmed the hair-raising Black Watch at St. Anne’s Warehouse among other Off-Broadway and Broadway productions) works in tandem with choreographers Steven Hoggett & Vicki Manderson with music supervision by Sarah Travis & Nadia DiGiallonardo. This NYC premiere traces the life of Rose-Lynn Harlan, a country music singer recently released from a Glasgow jail, torn between raising her family and heading to Nashville.
