ICE THEATRE OF NY

A mainstay in NYC, The Ice Theatre of NY celebrating its 42nd season, presented it’s annual gala performance and dinner at the Chelsea Piers. 

Founder and director, Moira North, curated an evening of ice dance performances that spotlighted her company and the talents of ice skating Olympic professionals. One of the evening highlights was the duet performed by Emiliea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik. Perfectly in sync, their seamless performance exemplified the connective tissue linking synchronized steps which built into lifts That  unraveled in a lyrical  cascade of unfoldings to the ground. 

The charismatic Emmanuel Savary shot up the adrenalin with a rousing solo to Prince’s Purple Rain. In a more lyrical piece, Liz Yoshiko Schmidt eased through backbends  lunges in a solo by Lucinda Ruh and  Kaitlyn Weaver.

There were humorous pieces featuring Matt Thomas and Vakhtang Murvanidze and architecturally structured group pieces by Rob McBrien, Milly Wasserman, Jim May, JoAnna Mendl Shaw and Peter DiFalco’s sensual Tango Images. 

And finally, the sensation of the Olympics, Llia Malinin delivered one of his high powered performances including his signature backflip and blinding technique.

The Ice Theater of NY  Company is composed of well rehearsed, talented ice skaters who go above and beyond athletics towards the art of ice dancing.
