Anchored by the Fall Gala on October 8, the NYC Ballet announces another season of recognized classics and new repertory.
A premiere by Justin Peck, Heatscape, will be joined by Ulysses Dove’s high-octane Red Angels on Sept. 25.
Opening night features Balanchine’s Donizetti Variations (music by Donizetti), one-act Swan Lake (music by Tschaikovsky), and Ballade (music by Fauré). Ballade, created by Balanchine in 1980 for dancers Merrill Ashley and Ib Anderson.
The second all-Balanchine starting September 17, features three works the Balanchine created in the 1950s: Square Dance (music by Vivaldi and Corelli from 1957), Episodes (music by Webern from 1959), and Western Symphony (traditional American melodies, orchestrated by Kay, from 1954).
Of course, casts will vary highlighting the multitude of talents raising the company to new artistic and performance heights.
