In 1998, NYC met Yasmina Reza’s perplexing comedy ART on Broadway. Centered on a debate about the worth of a piece of art, it’s not an uncommon discussion among the French, where it originated, but how did it fly in America? Well, it won a Tony Award and prompted audiences to continue the on-stage discussion into the wee hours of the night and around the water cooler at work.

The bantering between the three men about the value of the painting dissolves into a heated argument. Unable to fathom Serge’s passion for an all white canvas, the exchanges devolve into unresolved personal issues.

Meaty and thought provoking, the play, directed by Scott Ellis, will be supercharged in its Broadway revival with the appearance of theater royalty James Cordon along with super talented artists Neil Patrick Harris and Bobby Cannavale.

Playing for a limited time, Aug. 28 until Dec. 21 at the Music Box Theater.
