The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis debuts Cool School & Hard Bop under the direction of JLCO saxophonist Sherman Irby and frequent collaaborator — pianist, composer and arranger Joe Block.
The composition explores the shared themes of the cool jazz movement, known for its lyricis and surprising arrangements and hard bop, distinguished by its bluesy melodicism and virutosic vocabulary. Two more works will be premeired: For Duke Pearson by Benny Green and Milk Route by Luther Allison.
For those who love jazz, this will be three nights of outstanding music showcasing big band and small group arrangements. A free pre-concert discussion is hosted at 6:30pm before each show hosted by Seton Hawkins.
