Ready to experience something extraordinary? Edges of Ailey will blow you away.
Edges of Ailey pays tribute to the vibrant constellation of artists who shaped Alvin Ailey’s legacy. Among his closest collaborators was the iconic Judith Jamison, whose unparalleled vision carried Ailey’s work forward as a performer, choreographer, and artistic director. Her recent passing deepens our reflection on the profound connections she forged—connections that continue to inspire.
Beyond Jamison, Ailey’s creative community extended to luminaries like Langston Hughes, Duke Ellington, and countless others. Ailey and Hughes shared a commitment to elevating Black voices, crafting works like Black Nativity and Jerico-Jim Crow that remain powerful today. With Ellington, Ailey choreographed to the rhythms of jazz, culminating in enduring classics like Pas de Duke. Their creative exchange celebrated the richness of Black culture and showcased the transformative potential of community.
