BACK TO THE FUTURE
Sep 27, 2023Gus Solomons appeared twice on EYE ON DANCE. Once during EYE ON DANCE’s first year of production in 1981 (EOD title #20) and again in 1988 (EOD title #260). On both occasions, Gus Solomons, a postmodern dancer, was coupled with traditional African dance artists: Nana Yao Opare Dinizulu and Chuck Davis.
The conversations hopped between the experiences of Black dancers in the postmodern idiom and those lifting up the traditional African dance experience. In both clips, Solomons comments on perceptions of postmodern dance – Celia Ipiotis
